Inside, it has a roomy interior with attractive, quality materials, and it has a big trunk. It's an attractive car with relatively conservative, angular styling. Standard on all upper-level models, including the 2013 cruze ltz and 2013 cruze eco, mylink includes voice recognition technology, bluetooth streaming audio, and support for pandora and gracenote. Two new audio systems also appear on the 2013 chevrolet cruze, as well as new options and packages. An optional enhanced safety package for the 2013 cruze lt features a blind spot alert system, rear cross traffic alert and rear park assist. launched as a 2011 model, the cruze is a front-wheel-drive compact sedan developed jointly by gm tech centers in asia, europe and the united states to compete with the stylish hyundai elantra, sporty mazda3, and affordable kia forte, as well as the sales-leading compacts, the honda civic, ford focus and toyota corolla. the styling is conservative, though it's a well-designed, handsome car. The base cruze ls gets a 1. 8-liter inline-4 that makes 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. There's a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. fuel economy is very good from the turbocharged 1. 4-liter, at 26/38 mpg with both transmissions. Cruze eco rates an impressive 28/42 mpg with the manual transmission and 26/39 mpg with the automatic. The headlight housings are large, sweeping upward and around the front edges of the car. the roofline arcs subtly from its steeply raked windshield through fast-sloping rear pillars, creating a generally sporty profile. Its wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, with minimal overhang. No, this compact sedan doesn't break new ground or wow with its curves. But it's tidy and quite confidant looking, and the package generates a feeling of quality and solidity. Wheels range from 16-inch steel with plastic covers on the base ls to spoked 18-inch alloys with low-profile tires on the loaded ltz. the cruze eco is a slightly different beast from the other cruze models, because it's designed to be chevrolet's conventional-engine fuel economy leader. The differences start with 42 steps intended to trim weight, right down the size and location of welds in the body. As a result, the eco tips the scales at 3009 pounds, or 214 pounds less than the comparably equipped mid-level cruze lt. Cruze eco adds a host of aerodynamic tweaks, including some adapted from the chevrolet volt. These start with active grille shutters that close at higher speeds, blocking much of the grille surface when the cooling demands of the engine allow it, and smoothing air flow over the front of the car. The eco also sports a lower front air-dam extension, plastic panels that cover large portions of the underbody and a carefully crafted rear spoiler. The cabin is finished nicely with quality materials. Sound deadening measures result in quiet operation. Overall, the cruze cabin delivers an excellent balance of quality, coziness and space to breathe. cruze is near the top of the class for the look, fit and feel of the materials inside. The seams join with tighter tolerances than those in many other cars, including some of those a class or two above. The textiles and plastics are rich, appealing and nicely grained, and the metallic trim looks good. The fabric used for the door inserts matches that used on the seat cushions, and it flows from the doors across the bottom of the dash. It's unique, and visually inviting. the leather upholstery that's optional is thick, yet supple, and stretched tightly over the seats. The headliner is form fit with a soft, sturdy knit material, and it's only the outer layer of five in the roof's insulation. About the only thing not up to snuff is some hard plastic at the bottom of the door pillars, and while no one will look at it much, it's stands out as sub-par because everything else is so nice. The front-seat adjustments in the cruze allow occupants to find the right spot quickly and easily. Plug-in hybrid is efficient and looks cool. introductionplug-in hybrids such as the chevrolet volt offer the efficiency of an electric car and the certainty of a gasoline engine. The volt can run on pure electricity, but it carries its own gas-powered generator, so when it runs out of juice, it can keep going. And we found the volt fun to drive. However, its sticker price makes it a pricey investment up front, even after federal and state tax credits. the 2013 volt gets some improvements and additional features. Previously, the volt automatically allocated its electric power depending on driving mode and style. For 2013, a new hold button allows the driver to manually choose whether to use the volt's available electric power immediately, or whether to save it for later use. This can help maximize electric range if the driver saves the electricity for stop-and-go city driving. The 2013 chevrolet volt also gets an epa-estimated increase of three more miles on electric charge, to 38 miles. A new comfort package includes heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The optional safety package 1 includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear park assist and rearview camera. Safety package 2 includes front park assist, forward collision alert and lane departure warning. at the heart of the chevrolet volt is a 111-kilowatt electric motor that puts out the equivalent of 149 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. It's powered by a t-shaped lithium-ion battery mounted under the center console and rear seat. The 435-pound battery has its own heating and cooling system to operate efficiently in extremes of temperature. We've talked to a number of drivers who do this and they say they use so little gas that they have to worry about it going bad in the tank. combined with the gasoline engine, the volt has a total range of about 382 miles. Its handling is much better than that of the all-electric nissan leaf. just a couple of years ago, the volt was the only plug-in hybrid on the market. Exterior features include automatic headlights, heated outside mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels. options include a comfort package 275) that adds heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel), a premium package 1,395) that replaces the cloth upholstery with leather and adds heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a removable rear seat armrest with storage. Standalone options include navigation 895) and a premium, 7-speaker bose energy efficient audio system 495). An available low-emissions package for california and new york is free of charge, but this option must be added at the time of order. safety features include eight airbags: front-impact, front- and rear-passenger side impact, and full cabin head-protection curtains. The volt also gets stability control (esc), anti-lock brakes (abs), and onstar telematics with features like crash notification and on-demand roadside assistance (with three years of service included). The enhanced safety package 2 595) includes front park assist, forward collision alert and lane departure warning. walkaroundchevrolet volt's stand-out qualities start with the way it looks. The volt occupies about the same amount of floor space as a compact ford focus, and substantially less than mid-size sedans such as the chevy malibu or ford fusion. Yet, thanks its 435-pound battery pack, it weighs some 300 pounds more than the larger malibu or fusion. the volt is an exceptionally aerodynamic car, which helps it maximize range and fuel efficiency. Its low hood, raked windshield, long roof and high deck lid create the most aero-efficient chevrolet ever, with a drag coefficient of only 0. 28. That makes it one of the slipperiest sedans in the world. in the design sense, the volt is more forceful looking than other low-drag, high-mileage sedans and hatchbacks currently available. It's clearly cast in the current chevrolet theme, most particularly in front, where it shares traits with the cruze and malibu. Yet the volt makes excellent use of lighting as a design element, and its various aero-enhancing spoilers are integrated into a relatively sleek, holistic shape. It's laid out with two bucket seats in front, two in the rear and a center console running the full length of the cabin. the volt is as different inside as it is on the outside. No other vehicle takes quite the same tack when it comes to interior treatments, yet the volt is not so far out as to be dysfunctional or just plain weird. The center stack of switches is finished in glossy, lacquer-like white. The door pulls, window switches, vents and front cupholders are trimmed in bright silver. The build quality is excellent and the materials and graining are well done. expansive glass brings light into the car. The volt feels quite roomy in front, and we'd venture that only humans beyond perhaps the 80th percentile in stature will feel squeezed in any fashion. The front buckets are handsome and very usable, comprising some of gm's best seats ever. They're very snug and comfortable, but supportive and never numbing. They fit people of average build nicely, though we wonder if those 80th percentile bodies might find them a little small. the volt's gauges are two seven-inch, high-resolution full-color lcds. One is a user configurable cluster in front of the driver, while they other shows audio, climate and navigation functions at the top of the center stack. But eventually the novelty wears off. between these two screens, the driver can find every kind of technical information about the volt's operation. A large speedometer dominates the driver's screen, with other conventional gauges like fuel level arrayed around the corners, a battery depletion gauge on the left, and a floating virtual earth on the right-hand side. The idea is to keep the earth centered at all times for the best battery life and least energy usage. the center stack has several touch buttons that adjust the volt's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, entertainment and navigation functions. These are more like touch areas, without a mechanical button to operate. The driver must use a carefully pointed fingertip to avoid hitting the wrong button or area, but with a bit of time and familiarity, the various operations get easier and the switch collection becomes fun to use. the rear bucke.
